Embodied Heart Practices 💕
Let’s just say that 2020 has been one hell of an experience!
With everything going on, I sometimes find myself unconsciously preparing for worst possible scenarios. The toll it takes on my mental, emotional and physical health is very palpable. I am an avid meditator and I find allocating time for mindful practice both fulfilling and nourishing. Having said that, there have been times when -despite all efforts- these moments just don’t do it for me.
Throughout these Journals, I have delved into my toolbox of practices that help ground and centre me, all of which serve various needs and purposes. However, when I came across The Class by Taryn Toomey I found a new “heart centred” embodied workout that did wonders for me.
'Through simple, repetitive calisthenics and plyometrics, participants challenge the body to engage the mind. With guided instruction and powerful music, The Class invites students to witness their resistance to discomfort. The result is an expansive, heart-clearing and body-strengthening release. This Class will challenge and enlighten you all while building an incredibly strong, lean, resilient body. You will learn tools to empower your life.'
I did The Class three times last week - as soon as I woke up in the morning or right after getting back home from work. I wanted to explore the aspect of release and transformation at both the start and end of the day. One thing I can say is that the feeling of “release” and “transformation” was consistent for me regardless of the time.
If you are in need of a powerful experience and banging tunes I highly recommend giving this routine a try. There's a lot of sound release which I found super powerful and freeing!
Before signing off, I want to leave you to marvel at the visually stunning photograph of my all time girl-crush: Janelle Monae 🥰 by the incredibly talented photographer Dana Scruggs titled The Birth of Black Venus ✨
Till next time,
